Recently we were approached by K9 Natural to re-shoot their product range of freeze-dried dog food for their upcoming distribution into Japan. After we organized the freeze-dried products the team at K9 decided that they would like Module to do the product photography for K9’s entire range including the frozen range, treats and raw bones.
The shoot went really well but it wasn’t without difficulties. Whenever shooting product and packaging in general a lot of styling goes into the process. With dog food there are difficulties in making the food look as good in photo as it does in person and if the packaging is shiny and variable then the setup is particularly important.
With the K9 products we had multiple different box sizes and various plastic bag sizes. Shooting boxes was probably the smallest hurdle of this product shoot with the plastic bags being the most difficult.

We did an average of seven shots per product with the entire range topping out at about 40 SKU. The shoot lasted three days with the post production taking another two. The end result is an in depth representation of the K9 product range through photography. K9 was provided with three different types of photo asset. We gave them the RAW file, a high-rez and a web-rez version. To add a bit of value for K9 we gave their in-house designer the PSD files that we color corrected. Knowing that they have heaps of new web and print assets to create we thought it would be a useful and well appreciated addition.
Organization is a key part of what we deliver here. By that I mean that we like to present you with an easy to navigate final product. In the case of this most recent photoshoot it was important to us to give K9 a well laid out folder system. It might not sound like a lot but organizing an average of seven images per sku with all the bonus imagery and files can be difficult to navigate.
